Any one help, I have just installed FC6 and to my dismay there is no mp3 support (shame on me for not doing my homework) is there any thing I can do? I would hate to have to find another OS that has no problem supporting such a very common music file format. I have over 100 gig's of music and changing file formats at this point is not an option.
help me please

I was just waiting for this question! It's probably the most asked question by newbies in this forum and has been answered so many times it's become a bit tedious, to say the least. The 'Search' option is up there at the top of the page for a reason, not just to decorate the page and searching Google for MP3 playback on Fedora will bring in enough results to bury you.
Still, to save you going through all that effort to help yourself, I'll post a link:

Now, to get back to my stinking cold! :(

Ummm... First of all, Welcome! Second, Wayne has a cold...everybody keep back a couple thousand miles... Then, you've got MANY options to install the necessary codecs for mp3 and all the other goodies. Keep in mind that Fedora is trying very hard to remain FOSS, so you've got to get 3rd. party repositories involved. Here's some easy ways:
http://easylinux.info/wiki/Fedora_frog
http://fedorasolved.org/
http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-fc6.html
Okay...all good information..but we run into what IS the big 'glitch' with Fedora - repository compatibility. Livna (the repository Fedora likes) and the RPMForge group don't get along very well. There can be problems with versions of programs if you randomly install from both groups. So, read this: http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_5_installation_notes.html#Warning

Hi Bob,
Just popped back to spread my germs around. I'm in a sharing mood suddenly :-)
The link I gave the OP is based on Stanton's FC5 guide but updated with newer package names for FC6. I was looking for a guinea-pig to try it out :p

Okay...love it. But, can we give alternate instructions for the Livna crowd? If the SAME site could give two sets of 'how-to's', it would be perfect. Too many people jump from one to another.

Not really, since he moved to Ubuntu and didn't write a guide for FC6 I just adapted his FC5 guide when I installed FC6 so I thought I'd share what I'd done. There's a lot of stuff in his guide that didn't apply to my situation (ATI/nvidea, Bittorent, etc) so I cut them out and just focused on multimedia codecs and Java, stuff most newbies ask about.
Apart form some cosmetic errors, i just want to see if I got the procedure right for installing the codecs. You'll see I changed some things, for example, install the Extras xine-lib but added xine-lib-moles from Freshrpms which adds back the functionality not in the Extras RPM.

Well, since Stan's licence was GNU Free Documentation License, anyone can take what I've done and add/change what they like.
As I've said before, when I first installed FC5 I was looking how to add MP3 support, etc, like all newbies and found Stan's guide before I found this forum, so most of my questions were already answered :D I followed his advice and only used Livna for totem-xine so I don't know if the filenames there are the same.
