i have a machine with FC6 on it and was wondering how i could go about

2. installing windows xp on the second new partition.
is it possible without losing and of the partitions???

hate to ask but if this is a desktop did you consider just buying another 40GB drive?

I believe GParted or QTParted should probably resize the partition but it is risky. NTFS it can be done but the NTFS doesnt like it and it will usaually cause errors when you run Windows again. I dont even know what EXT3 thinks about being resized. If it is LVM then just forget it now. Which is why I asked about just picking up a second drive and installing Windows on that. Should only cost below $50 American for a small drive and you might find one a lot cheaper.
edit: Also, be aware if you do manage to resize it you can certainly install Windows AFTER Linux on a computer but you will have to reinstall Grub when you are done. Just another reason for a second drive.
