i tried to install fc6 on x346 with aic7902 (are there x346 with different scsi ?)
my hw comes with hostraid configured by factory
raid1 (i have 2 disks of 73 giga, as usual)
channel is B
fc6 recognizes all the hw components but at the last step, when grub does try to install on mbr, it is unable to reconize partition with error 21
root (hd0,0)
no partition
install /grub/stage1 d (hd0) /grub/stage2 p (hd0,0)/grub/grub.conf
Error 21 etc etc

u can Ctrl-Alt-F4 to see what grub is going on

i destroyed hostraid, now fc6 sees 2 disks and install with no pain

The issue is related to hostraid factory defalut name: ASR 1
All u have to do is to destroy and re-create hostraid with a name containg no space or other very critical caracthers, i used raid
After this change, grub does install on mbr like a charm

I initially used HostRAID on some x336 systems - but more recently on some x346 systems have disabled the Adaptec HostRAID and used the Linux software RAID system.

The Adaptec in the x346 is also a pseudo-RAID controller, but the Linux software RAID has the advantage of consistent mdadm diagnostics and email notifications across all types of systems.

Just a thought.
