FC recommendation for Imac G3

Looking for recommendations for an Imac G3 (2001)

Hoping to have my mum use the machine for the following things:
- Digital Photo storage and printing
- Dial up web access
- web browsing
- basic text processing

Attempted to install FC6, however the install was not as smooth as expected... ;-(
- Interactive setup wouldn't launch, so had to settle for text install
- had to fiddle with xorg.conf in order for startx to launch at all (the machine has an ATI rage 128, for which an updated driver does not seem to exist)
- after changing manually inittab to X start, the login window does not automatically appear, and a CTRL-F7 is required to get there

Wondering if anyone has faced these issues, and perhaps has a config or recommendations on a good version of Fedora Core to use (FC5??)

I have a PowerBook with FC 5 installed, and all worked fine but after install, you must update. FC 6 is more advanced but had a configuration problems yet.
