Many power users most likely know this, but since I just discovered this little tweak I'll pass it along. Open up Firefox and type "about:config" (no quotes) in the location bar ,then locate the line : network.http.pipelining .
Right click on the line and select "toggle" from the dropdown and viola! Your page loading times will speed up. I don't know if all you broadband users will notice much of a difference, but for those of us stuck with dialup it makes a big improvement in in page loading times (at least it does foe me ). More info. on the subject can be found here: http://www.die.net/musings/page_load_time/
