Plextor PX708A only burns DVD's

I'm running a fresh install of FC6. My Plextor refuses to recognize CD-R or RW. I can burn DVD's all day without a problem. I've researched this and can't find anything similar. The drive worked fine under FC4. I don't think it could be firmware related, but anything is possible. Any help would be appreciated. :confused:

Have you tried, as root, burning cd images from the command line - something like:
mkisofs -R -o myimage.iso myfile
cdrecord dev=ATA:1,0,0 myimage.iso
?
I find that the command line growisofs works for DVDs but not for cds and cdrecord works for cds but not dvds.
As to the various gui's for burning, I don't use them.

I'll try it. I did try to run K3B as root for CD's, but got nowhere. Thanks for your suggestion, I'll give it a shot when I have time.
