View Full Version : Playstation 2 video input...

Ok, the answer to my question might sound pretty obvious just by reading the name of the component but i want to ask around anyways. I currently have an XFX Geforce 6800 xt that has dual dvi output and 1 s-video output as well. Even though the s-video is named "tv-out" is it still possible to plug my playstation 2 in that port on the video card and be able to view the game console output on my dvi out puts? I want to assume that if the port is "tv-out" then thats all the card was built to do, output a signal. I am also under the assumption that if this is possible then nvidia already has options in the device management to handle the input device.

I would like to be able to plug my playstation 2 into my computer (via s-video) and then output one the video to one of my 2 desktop monitors so i may play my heavily neglected game console. I have already done some research on cables and different types of "switching" devices but i would really like the idea of not having to purchase 40-50 dollars of additional equipment to have such the luxury. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I don't think this is going to work. You want video-in not out. For example, I can hook up my kids' PS2 or Gamecube to my machine via the Hauppauge WinTV card I have installed. The tv-out on your card is just that, it outputs your PC display to a TV. My ATI card also has one but it doesn't work in Linux.

Yea i pretty much figured the same thing. I figured i would just double check with everyone. I am actually looking at that USB0-Live video input device on their website. I wonder if that would work under linux as well or if i would need to have the software in order to use it? Do you have to use any special software with your WinTV card in linux or will linux just stream the input via totem or mplayeror some video application?

Two TV apps I know of are TVTime and XdTV. TVTime is in the repos and XdTV is available from:

if you want play your PS2 on PC monitor then the ceapest way is to buy a TV device. I bought it for only 900 RS (15$). that device make your monitor work like TV.
