Here are the steps to get perfect mp3 playback from xmms:

**Setp up /etc/yum.conf to contain:
[livna-stable]
name=Livna.org - Fedora Compatible Packages (stable)
baseurl=http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/yum/stable
gpgcheck=1

**Insert Livna's GPG Key into keyring:

rpm --import http://rpm.livna.org/RPM-LIVNA-GPG-KEY

**Make sure the xmms-mp3 version you download is the same as your xmms version. Then:

yum install xmms-mp3

**Now, open xmms and go to Options -> Preferences. Under the Audio I/O tab, uncheck Enable plugin for "MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Placeholder Plugin [librh_mp3.so] so that it says (Disabled) next to it. Then check that the "real" MP3 plugin is there, called MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Player [libmpg123.so], and that the Enable plugin checkbox is checked.

For the Output plugin, choose eSound Ouput Plugin if you're running OSS sound drivers or ALSA output plugin if you're running ALSA sound drivers.

That's it. Enjoy the MP3's! :)

hi,
i have xmms 1.2.10 here after i did a yum update xmms
and yum install xmms-mp3

MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Placeholder Plugin [librh_mp3.so] enabled
MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Player 1.2.10 [libmpg123.so] disabled

all mp3 files, work perfectly for me..

and for audio streams
i have it set the completely opposite

MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Placeholder Plugin [librh_mp3.so] disabled
MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Player 1.2.10 [libmpg123.so] enabled

as crazy as it sounds, it works i just choose the mpg plugin i wan depending on what i want to listen to....

ttyl...

The steps 1 and 2 are ok.

But doing the third step I receive this error:

http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/3/i386/yum/stable/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: HTTP Error 404: Not Found
Trying other mirror.
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: livna-stable
failure: repodata/repomd.xml from livna-stable: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

What can I do?

And here is a good multi-media how-to (http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28153) that covers the most used music and dvd players.

@LBreda try this repo because they have it too:[freshrpms]
name=FreshRPMS-Fresh
baseurl=http://ayo.freshrpms.net/fedora/linux/$releasever/$basearch/freshrpms
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1and here is the key: rpm --import http://freshrpms.net/packages/RPM-GPG-KEY.txt

For setting up my MP3 support I have to be connected to Internet. Is it possible to install offline the same. If so can u give teh steps involved.

i always have trouble when figure out linux lol. So im trying to add mp3 support to XMMS, i did everything that was stated in the first post, but when i went to XMMS and went to options then went to Preferences and then under Input plugins i saw which plug in i was suppose to disable, but i did not see the other plugin that i was suppose to enable. I think i might have downloaded the wrong update from my XMMS. I have 1.2.10 please direct me towards the proper upgrade for this version. Thanks.

Yum

To start using the rpm.livna.org repository in yum simply install the livna-release rpm package:

rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/RPMS.lvn/livna-release-4-0.lvn.2.4.noarch.rpm

And it works :)

In the second step, i got the following message;

[root@localhost Downloads]# rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/R...2.4.noarch.rpm

It seems something is up with their server. Try again in a while, maybe in a day or two.

This thread is very old and yes, livna is down for a while now.
However, if you insist on using it there are a couple of mirrors one can use. One is for example:
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/rpm.livna.org/

Is there an alternative to using livna or a mirror for things like this?
I'd prefer not to use something that's obsolete

Everything except the libdvdcss package was moved out of livna into the RPMFusion repos some time ago. You can enable the RPMFusion repos in Gnome PackageKit or yumex and get timely updates.

Go to http://rpmfusion.org/, follow the configuration instructions. It's quite painless.

And now that this is settled ... I'll close this one. It's a bit old <..:rolleyes:..>
