I looked up the price of a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 4 today on pricegrabber. Turns out it's $41. This card has on board support for Dolby Digital Sound, and DTS for both 5.1 and 7.1 speaker systems. That means no external Dolby decoder is neccessary. I'm want to purchase this but first I would like to see if anyone has managed to get it to work under linux.

Anyone got the Audigy 4 Dolby surround sound stuff to work yet? I'm not interested in the normal stereo support.

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 (Not Pro)

I purchased the Audigy 4 from NewEgg this week. Cost $40, and arrived in 3 days. Upon installation I recieved no sound. I look around the net and came up with a working solution.

Here is what you do:
1. run alsamixer
2. Mute the "IEC958 Optical Raw Switch" ('m' on the keyboard) that is, it should be 'off'.
3. Unmute the "Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack", make sure it is on.

This immediately fixed my issue.

Note: Make sure in Xine that you have the Audio set to 5.1 or 6.1. Don't want to go through all this trouble and only be using stereo.
