Screen off in FC6 with iMac G4

I would like to setup iMac G4 as a server. Computer monitor does not have to be on all the time, but there is no physical switch to turn it off. In System Preference, display can be set to off after 5 minutes of inaction. However, screen become all bright instead of black (off) after 5 min.

Has anyone successfully put iMac G4 monitor to sleep with FC6, FC5 or YDL?

System info:
iMac G4 15" Flat Panel
512M RAM, 40G HD, CDRW
nVidia GeForce MX 32M

I am experiencing a problem with power management in that instead of turning off the screen it turns it hot pink. Sometimes there is a black strip down the monitor. This burned discoloration into my monitor. Very annoying. Wondering if anyone else has run into this problem.
