Rock Quaddra Ti Problems in ubuntu

OK first off, this isn't for me, it's for a mate. (Linux is working very nicely for me :)) Anyways, my mate has a Rock Quaddra Ti laptop, which has a slight problem. It has surround sound built in, but the subwoofer won't work. I'm using Alsa on my desktop which does the trick, but on this brick, it still refuses to activate.

Any ideas?

How the heck do you get surround sound from a laptop? Curious...

Have you joined the Ubuntu Forum and posed the question there? I'm not sure that any help we could give would work on that distro.
