Hello,

I want to install FC6 onto a Dell PowerEdge 1400SC server. Here are the hardware specs:

- P3 1Ghz
- 512MB ECC
- Higpoint ATA-133 IDE card (not RAID)
- four ATA hard drives connected to Hitec ATA-133 card (hde to hdh)
- IDE cdrom plugged into motherboard IDE port (hda)

This is what happens when using the default install method (graphical):

- system boots (detects Hitec ATA-133 card and detects all four hard drives correctly)
- loads aic7xxx driver (on board scsi, nothing connected to it)
- test cd media (tests ok)
- Anaconda installer begins
- X probes and detects ATI Rage XL video card, monitor and mouse correctly
- X starts, I get a black screen with 'X' mouse cursor
- cd rom activity
- floppy drive activity
- nothing else occurs, mouse cursor moves with mouse, I'm able to terminate X by ctrl-alt-bcksp

Alt-F3 shows:

INFO: Display mode = g
INFO: Method = cdrom://hda:/mnt/source
INFO: anaconda floppy device fd0
INFO: Started mini-wm
INFO: Starting graphical installation
INFO: no /tmp/fcpconfig; not configuring zfcp

Alt-F4 shows no errors, last two lines are:

<6>device-mapper: multipath emc: version 0.0.3 loaded
<5>audit(1162560358.351:3): audit_pid=667 old=0 by auid=4294967295 subj=system_u:system_r:anaconda_t:s0

Then I tried text install (linux text) with similar results.

I tried using
acpi=off apm=off ide=nodma nousb nofb noprobe
with the same results.

I tried FC5, with same results.

I tried FC4, it worked up to the point of actual installation when FC4 install crashes with an error complaining about being unable to inform the kernel about the changed partition table.

I installed slackware 11 and it works properly.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Hector
