First i want to says that after reinstalling fedora i had problems configuring XMMS so i look for and alternative which I think other users also use for MP3's. I solved all my mp3 problems and it is easy to use!

The name of it is Zinf and here is the link for more info: www.zinf.org

You need to small downloads to make it work and here are both links:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/zinf/id3lib-3.8.3-2.i386.rpm?use_mirror=unc <-install first

libmusicbrainz is also needed now (http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/1201093/com/libmusicbrainz-2.1.1-0.fdr.0.2.i386.rpm.html)

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/zinf/zinf-2.2.5-1.i386.rpm?download

YOU CAN ALSO CD THE FOLDER WHERE YOU DOWLOADED all this packages and open terminal and
type: cd zinf <- zinf is the location and folder i created in my home directory
type: rpm -ivh * <- this command will install all the packages at the same time

I also use realplayer for mp3's and movie trailers in my browser....follow this tutorial from tchung: http://www.fedoranews.org/tchung/realplayer/

IT WORKS IN FC 1 AND FC 2 ....I hope this helps!:D

I haven't used xmms in a while myself. I'm a fan of Amarok with my music catalog stored in a MySQL database.

Hey guys the original post is from April of 2004...I used Zinf at that time due to problems with XMMS...that is no longer the case for me anyway. Is it still in developement?

Rhythmbox is clean, simple, and easy to use, too.

Audacious (http://www.audacious-media-player.org) and Quod Libet (http://www.sacredchao.net/quodlibet) are excellent media players as well...
