There are some lovely crystal icons for Firefox and Thunderbird available from here (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=10685), for all you KDE junkies.

Hey, what about the GNOME junkies? :p Doesn't matter - I hacked things up and now have a nice firefox icon on the panel. :)

Could you tell me how to display the Firefox icon on the panel? Everytime I need to open up Firefox, always have to type in command line :-(
Many thanks

Egosz, you can do it the 'gui' way by browsing to the firefox 'executable' file and dragging the icon to the desktop. This will prompt a response of "copy here" or "link here". Choose 'link here' and an icon will be placed on your desktop. Icons can be changed by right-clicking on them and choosing 'properties' then browsing to the directory (in this case firefox/chrome/icons/default) and selecting it.

Create a shortcut and on properties choose the path where firefox is and choose an icon you like.

Thanks all for your help.
Finally I have managed to do that as you said by draging the executable file on the panel and then change the icon. However, I wonder whether we can change the text displayed when we hover the mouse over the icon (currently it only shows the executable file path).
Thanks

You should change the comment textbox in it's launcher properties. See attachment.
:)
EDIT1
And the best way to add a shortcut to the panel is to right-click on it and choose 'Add to Panel', then 'Launcher...'. Then pops up a dialog box (similar to the one in the attached picture) where you should just fill in some blanks. In the Command textbox there should be the program the shortcut should launch, you can click on the browse button and choose the program or just fill it manually. That's it.
EDIT2
Hm, it's in gnome. Sry, don't know KDE.

Could it possible to create a launcher like that in KDE? I couldn't find that when right clicking on the panel.
Cheers.

Those are some pretty nice icons, though I'm not to fond of the Thunderbird icon as it's pretty hard to separate the bird and the globe.
