Hello,
I have tested this on both RHEL4v3 and Fedora Core 3-4.
My card is a RADEON 9700
This driver works fine!
ATI Proprietary Linux x86 Display Drivers for XFREE86 / X. Org Version 8.20.8
This one does not.
ATI Proprietary Linux x86 Display Drivers for XFREE86 / X. Org Version 8.29.6
Can anyone think of a reason why?
This is really starting to bug me :p
Thanks in advance!

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=1176
that says 9250 isn't supported by newest drivers, but .. hmm lets see you have 9700 .. and it doesn't say it doesnt support 9700 .. and i check release notes and 9700 is listed so not sure
id stick with the older one for now
i have also had problems with 8.29.6 and its not working right for me so it may just be a bad release i wonder if any others have issues with newest driver

I just find it odd that anything above 8.20.8 simply refuses to work. It may be due to the change in config i.e. Instead of running fglrxconfig I need to run the "improved"
aticonfig --initial command.
Oh well. Guess I will have to stick with outdated drivers... :(
Thanks for your reply!

Ok, I have tried the latest ATI drivers on RedHat Enterprise 4 update 3 and they work fine!
If I then try to use them on FC5 i get this error when I try to startx.
libstdc++.so can not be found
Why does it work with RHEL4 and not FC5?
I do exactly the same thing lol.
(libstdc++.so) I am sure I have that. I ran the RPM off the CD and it said libstdc++ was already installed...
very odd....
