I have an Epson HL-1240 Laser printer. This is not a PS printer. The print server (FC5 Box) and a Win98 Computer have no print problems. 3rd computer, FC5, prints garbage (postscript commands) whether connected directly to the printer or printing through the print server. The correct ppd file is selected - in fact the config looks identical to the server.

Where did I screw up?

Thanks, syborg

Well,
The first and most obvious problem is simple. You do not have an Epson printer.
There is not EPSON HL1240. There is however a Brother HL 1240.

The first rule of finding an answer is to use the search tool on this site.

Once you searched for Brother HL1240 you would have been lead to this site.

http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/index.html

Further postings that will pop up here in the search results will provide you the answer that you need.

I don't know why my fingers didn't listen to my brain, but they insisted on typing Epson instead of typing Brother like they were told.

Thanks for pointing me to Brother...I should have known to check there. Must have taken my stupid pills. Oh yeah, I did take my stupid pills. I should just ignore my doctor's advice and just suck it up and live with the pain like a man.

I didn't recall having to load the Brother drivers for the other FC5 machine. I must have because it works.

sigh, syborg
