I have a HP4200 series printer...it operates as a printer, fax, copier, and scanner. Will Fedora Core 5 allow this printer to work properly with all functions? This printer CD install works for Windows and Mac. I just laoded Core 1 on my HP Pavillion for experimentation, and I don't want to waste anymore efforts if Core 5 won't support.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Goto http://www.linuxprinting.org/cups-doc.html and enter model number. Get and install the HPLIP drivers and follow install docs. Works great for printing, scanning, and maybe faxing. Never spent the time to get this feature to work. There is a HPIJS but it is just the driver. HPLIP has the HPIJS and everything else plus a gui manager.

Used a photosmart P1100 and now using a PhotoSmart AIO 3300 on the ethernet port and works great. Used and older Officejet 1150c for years using the HPOJ modules to scan with. Not as robust as the HPLIP stuff but worked great for the printer. HPs are one of the most supported printers in the linux world.

Thank you Brian1! I will give it a try...I'm new to Fedora Linux...been a Windows user for so many years and I'm getting tired of all the Windows XP security updates and its inefficiency. Giving myself 2 mos. to get things in place before I convert entirely to Linux. -franco53
