I built my brother a very nice computer for awesome price, here's some specs:
<AMD AM2>
CASE: Raidmax Scorpio 868 420W
MB: ASUS M2N-E
CPU: AMD X2 4000
HD: Seagate 160GB SATA2 NCQ
DVD writer: Sony DRU-820A
Graphics: ASUS Radeon X1600 Pro 512MB
LCD: Samsung 17" 730 black DVI
RAM: 2x512MB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800
anywho i connected a usb optical mouse PS2 port via converter and even after shutting down system, the light from the optical mouse remains on. I havn't tried directly connecting to USB cus i figure i should be able to use usb / ps2 adapter.
if i unplug mouse and plug it back in while system is off, light from optical mouse does not turn on.
just wonderin if anyone had any ideas here

I have several systems with different motherboards and the light on the ps/2 optical mouse stays on as you describe. I've never tried unplugging them to see if this turns the light off. Perhaps there is some option in the motherboard's BIOS setting to control this.

My old intellimouse explorer light + a little red LED on my motherboard stays on as long as the AC mains is still on.
I think it is because ps/2 is controlled via the BIOS (or at least I believe it is) whereas the usb mice which can be controller either by the BIOS or by the OS.

I have seen the same thing with my machine. I recently bought a new laser wireless mouse with a charging station. I thought the PC would have to be on for the charging station to work but I was wrong. So I asked around in work.
Even if your PC is turned off as long as there is power to the system (unless you have a "kill" switch on the PSU) the PSU can and will provide power to external devices that request it. There fore an optical mouse connected to the PS2 or USB slot will continue to have it's light on until it reaches a "time out" period of non use when it will shut itself down. Or in my case it allows my charger to charge my mouse while the PC is turned off. It's quite strange as many devices I have connected to my PC are usb attached and my desk looks like a disco at night with the lights off but all these little LEDS still on.
The only way to completely kill this power is either a complete power cut off switch on your PSU or to unplug your system.

Hi guys.
No need for concern, I think. This is a "symptom" of a motherboard "feature". Check your BIOS and you will find an option to boot the machine through either a keystroke combination or a mouse button click. To do this, even though the system is "shut down" it maintains a scan of the keyboard and the mouse. (I use the ctrl+F1 keystroke option to boot.)
