Hello, I currently have linux/XP on the same Hard Drive, operating a dual-boot. I would much rather have the OS's on a hard drive of their own and being able to boot into which OS, and thus which HDD i want to.

I was wondering, If i leave windows on my current hard drive and remove FD5, install a new hard drive and install FD5 on the new drive, how would i install the boot loader which would give me the option of OS's to boot? Do I need to make one the master and the other the slave? If so, would the master drive boot automatically?

Any advice on how to set up dual OS's on seperate disks would be appreciated.

P.S. the drives would be SATA

The easiest way out is to sidestep the entire issue. Buy two "drive drawers" they usually run $20 each. Install windows on one drive and FC on the other. When you want to switch: shut down machine, turn key, pull drawer, insert new drawer, turn key and start machine up. The advantage to this system is that the two OSs cannot effect each other. The disadvantage is you have no access to the data on the other OS. I get around this by installing a 3rd hard drive (installed normally) and just store data on this drive (format this data drive with a format that both OSs can read). This allows me to run 3.11, 98, xp, OS/2, FC4 and FC5 from the same machine (each OS has its own drive+drawer). In less than three minutes I can switch to any of the OSs. This can also be used to store files (movie ISOs etc) for quick access. The price/GB is better than external USB drives and is faster. Pata and Sata dirve drawers are available, so make sure you get the correct one for your system.

Here's another way: http://www.fedorajim.homelinux.com/ It worked for me.

And there's always the BIOS switch. Install and leave each on it's own drive and simply go into the BIOS each time and switch which hard drive to boot first.
