Found this relatively new Mod for Unreal Tournament 2004
It seems to be extremely popular in Germany where the majority of its developers are from, but seems to be growing steadily in north america.
http://www.to-crossfire.net/
The mod's makers make installers specifically for Linux, i say we support them and spread the word. This game has potential to grow tremendously, especially in the Linux crowd.
Hope you all enjoy, i'm very glad I found it.

beauty part is, i got my UT2k4 license brand new on ebay for like $20
its worth it given the amount of mods there are for it, and the game itself.

It's a game, which is built on top of the infrastructure provided by native UT2004, so you must have UT2004 installed for it to properly work, however the content of the mod is free. Maybe they could include the binaries for UT2004, as they are freely distributed in the patches; however if they required any additional stuff from the main UT2004 installation (textures, meshes and the like) they'd be using Epic licensed stuff, and they couldn't bundle those with the rest of their mod.

Hopefully they will do what the developers of quake did. They GPL'd the source to quake 3 recently. Maybe we can expect the source for UT2k4 when 2k7 arrives.

I wouldn't count on that, as the Unreal Engine is used for more stuff than only games. For instance I know that the original Unreal Engine was also used for an architectural program which allowed for virtual building of real estate developments and virtually "walk through" these environments. AFAIK some architects actually used this program (starting with Unreal, actually) to demonstrate projects to potential buyers and customers, so I'm not 100% sure they will GPL the UE. If they would have ever done that, they should have by now GPL'ed the UE1 (Unreal, Unreal Tournament '99), however Epic can always surprise us.

Quick question for you guys who got it going. I got the MOD installed and it made a "TOCrossfire" folder in my ut2004 game folder and it made a "runTOC.sh" in my home folder. I right clicked and made sure it is executable but it wont start the game. When I choose run in term. the terminal is blank and then goes away, does nothing. When I click display it shows this
#!/bin/bash
sh /home/Mike/LocalApps/ut2004/ut2004 -MOD=TOCrossfire -log=TOCrossfire.log
Have I done everything correctly, what else am I missing? I really wanna play this. Thanks

Is this where you installed UT2004?
And check the .log file for any clues too.

I haven't played CS:S so I can't tell you. However if you've ever played UT2004, and are familiar with its physics engine and effects, you can somewhat guess what it is like.

Ya thats where I installed ut2004. How do I check the .log file?
I used to play CS1.6 and source like crazy, I let you know how it is when I get it going.

In your "local" UT2004 directory (~/.ut2004) under System, you will find the .log file.

I dont think I have that file Thetargos. I have a ton of files I went through each one but I didnt see a log file or even a .log file. I didnt see one in the TOCrossfire system folder either. What does that mean? ut2004 itself plays fine.
Edit: After a little research not everyone has a log file apparently. I guess you only get one if your game crashes, not sure really. Anyway they dont give a answer and its not for the mod either.

I've been a hardcore CS player since 1.3, and played Source regularly when it came out. The graphics don't even compare to TOC. The detail put into every map is absolutely amazing.

Those have to be pre-rendered screenshots, right? I mean, for a UT2004 mod, that looks almost Elder Scrolls Oblivion-like.

Not exactly. They make clever use of Coronas and volumetric lightning (a feature part of the Unreal Engine since Unreal Engine 1). The mod is high quality, though.

Where did you place the runTOC.sh script? You will have to use that, and depending on the location of your UT2K4 installation, you may require to edit the launcher script. I had to edit it, as I'm using the 64-bit version of UT2K4

I have not placted the runTOC.sh script anywhere. Where are you seeing this file? Do I need to create it? UT2004 is located at /usr/local/games/UT2004/
I have not been able to find any documentation for the crossfire install, so if you know where that is please link me. Thanks

It looks to me like it is having issues starting the engine, and yet I can play UT2004 just fine. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Thanks
I installed version 1.0 and it said it was sucessful, and i then applied the patch to bring it up to 1.2 and it also was sucessful.

Well, it looks as if you did not installed correctly. Make sure you install as root or have write perms as your user in the main UT2004 installation, there are way too many missing things that probably mean they were not copied..

Anyway its pretty cool alternative to the real CS, and Im happy. Thanks for tring to help me guys, you probably thought I had brains and read the web-site instructions, lol.
