I don't know whether this will help you, but I just got my laptop built-in wireless working yerterday after 2 weeks trying every post I could find.
What I figured out, in my experience, ndiswrapper is actually pretty simple compared to the other procedures. You only have to make sure you have the correct .inf file from the Windows drivers for your card. And if you're running 64-bit Linux make sure you get the 64-bit driver for Win XP Pro x64 for example.
Use this post for ndiswrapper http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=100195, it's really good. I would only recommend to google search for ready ndiswrapper RPMs rather than compiling yourself. I think I found mine on atrpms website (don't know the exact address, should be able to find it in google).
Using ndiswrapper and the Linux's System - Administration - Network option is the simplest way to get it working from what I've seen.
Just make sure you're working with the correct .inf file for 32/64 bit and delete/disable all your attempts so far and devices you might have created.
I'm Linux newbie otherwise so can't help you more than this. I don't think you will find a card working straight away, by looking at posts it doesn't work that way.
Cheers.

Pick up any of the netgear cards. You can use the Atheros madwifi drivers for them and it's as easy to install as "yum install madwifi" from livna repository.
