Hi all !
I have just installed ET for linux... the instalation whent well no problems reported but when i ran it for the first time it freezes.
If i let it run the intro movie it plays all the way with no problem... fast and with sound ok ... then appears the menu to place your nickname connection type etc ... and the mouse cursor goes to that menu it freezess !
i'v never had this problem before i had an nvidia card installed and played et very well in linux but know that i have my new ati x1600 it gives me this problem :(
i'v installed my ati driver from the livna repo kmod-fglrx
as far i can see i have direct rendering in glxinfo.
and fglrxinfo shows:
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Radeon X1600 Series Generic
OpenGL version string: 2.0.5879 (8.26.18)
so i assume everything is ok with graphics ... but i can never be sure :(
anyone with the same problem ?

You'll have to reconfigure your etconfig.cfg to handle the new ati card. The easiest way would be to delete all your et folders incuding the hidden in your home directory and reinstall. This way it'll reference all the correct settings. If youre into modding your config file dont reuse the old one from the nvidia install, mod the new one after installation
I'm at work at the moment but I can have a look when I get home but I guess the problem might be in the LastValidRenderer(?) and OpenGL driver lines of your etconfig.cfg or autoexec.cfg

well, I realize this is an older thread I thought there is something you should know.
ET has had this problem with ATI for as long as I can remember, however with the newest driver release they seem to have fixed it.
Basically, I installed the newest driver using the install script provided by ati to make Fedora packages and it worked.

Thanks Bachmann :)
With those drivers what's the result of glxgears?
To me it gives me 200+ Fps only :( is this normal?

that seems really slow I get about 1800. Let me ask you something, have you tried
"aticonfig --initial"? because, and this may be obvious, even though you have installed them you have to turn them on.

i'v just did a aticonfig --initial and the answer was this:
Found fglrx primary device section
Nothing to do, terminating.
do i have do place more arguments on the aticonfig command?
do you have an ati card like mine ? (ati x1600 pro)
can you show your xorg.conf?
thanks for the help

well, that means that your xorg is set to use fglrx...... if glxinfo still says direct rendering no then there is something else wrong....

I have an ati mobility 9000 and I would show you my xorg, but I recently switched to fc6 and currently am using the open source radeon driver.

i'v switch to fc6 too ... open source ati drivers? not the official ati drivers? my quest for ati dirvers working still on :p

lol. Yeah.
When I switch over to closed source drivers, ill let you know if anything happens.
Just know that with the current ATI release there are some issues with FC6 I think the fedora weekly news said something about it.
good luck,

I had system freezes overall and with ET using opensource Ati driver. This was eventually fixed with the fglrx driver; have a look at http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=138145. Check your xorg.conf to see if it has similarities to the example file linked to in that thread. Hope this helps.
