I've just got a new system with a NVIDIA 7600GS 256MB graphic card. However, the nvidia drivers dont seem to work with it at all. I have to rely on the vesa drivers and im stuck at 800x600 screen resolution. Can someone help me out here? Do the official nvidia linux drivers really not support this card?

Hello:
Well, according to the release notes your Card is supported by the 1.0-8762 drivers. http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-8762/README/appendix-a.html
Did you try to install the drivers by using the livna repo and following this guide? http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_5_installation_notes.html#nVidia
and they still will not work?

I downloaded the latest drivers from livna and installed them as per the instructions in the FC5 installation guide. The drivers are enabled during boot but when I check my xorg.conf, the driver is stated as "vesa".

Hello:
Try editing your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and replace vesa with nvidia and reboot or restart X.

Hello:
Please don't take this the wrong way, however, you should have a look at this first before recommending going directly to the Nvidia package. [certainly for FC5 at least]https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2006-February/msg01565.html
If you use the livna rpm's you will avoid all the potential issues. In my own experience installing directly from Nvidia has caused seg faults [x86_64]in OpenOffice for example, which I thought were bugs, but in fact turned out to be issues related directly to the Nvidia .run package.
This and other issues are avoided by using the rpms from livna and following the instructions posted here:http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_5_installation_notes.html#nVidia
Cheers :)

I have not had a problem with 32 bit... So I have not read about these issues. Maybe its related to 64 bit.

I agree with Seve. Google Earth for instance did not start and it was playing around with the libGL files that the nvidia installer *messed* up.
I'm running FC5 x86_64.
