Linux The Great
19th June 2006, 12:22 AM
My Athlon 64 3000 and Nvidia FX 5200 struggles with this game. 800X600 32bit and all of the defaul graphics settings.
It's a nice attempt.... maybe I'll give it a shot when I finally get that supercomputer I've been wanting.

Actually that's my main gripe about this game, Linux The Great. I mean, it IS one graphics heavy game, but (to me at least) it lacks in some other areas. For example, of the games that have implemented many of the features that this game has, the graphics are not as sloppy or choppy when playing in lower end systems with the default or minimum graphics settings. The framerate might be alright (~30FPS), but the feel of the game is rather sloppy.

Yeah,
I think the game seems jumpy or jerky, and something also seems strange with the shooting. Besides that the graphics are fine.

Warsow, Nexius and other Linux games are often mentioned on http://www.linux-gamers.net/ It's one of my daily haunts.

Nexuiz has aweful sound on my computer. Every half second it has a click (whether sound is playing or not), which makes basically any audio in the game unbearable.
Also, the performance is jumpy. If you have another player in the area, everything grinds to a halt.

You may be experiencing sound buffer underruns, which in turn use extra CPU cycles, which in turn hinder performance, but this should be taken care of in the ALSA config files to upper the buffer size (I don't exactly remember the syntax, sorry)

Hmm... The www.warsow.net site greets me with a forbidden error? What da...?

Does anyone have an icon for warsow to use in the menus? I don't seem to see one after downloading and unpacking the game.

check out newest update of nexuix :) [ ver. 2.0 ] it isn't available yet in extras repo, but you can download binaries from here (http://www.alientrap.org/nexuiz/index.php?module=downloads) there are many bugfixes and improvementsm for example improved graphics, gameplay etc. for bugfixes there is a good news, sound is fixed and works fine with fedora =) also there is singleplayer campaign added to the game, check it out =) cheers

Does it obsolete Nexuiz v1.x? I have v1 installed through Extras and v2 installed through .bin, so they both are coexisting rather nice.

I'm afraid so.

Hmm... I may have to revert the situation. Make v1 installed through .bin and install v2 through Extras... Will ponder on that later.

Has anyone managed to get a LAN nexuiz game working in v 2.0-2? When I create a server, other local computers can't see the game even if it's public. I do have nexuiz-server installed...
