Hi gang. I am brand new and I am already having trouble. I am trying to install the i386 Fedora Core 5 Redhat version. I have downloaded the 5 CD and run a sha1sum. Every thing looks fine. However when I burn the cd and test the media in the installation I am told that there are errors with my disk. I re-burned a copy of the disk and tried it again. No dice. I tried a third time... Ahhh still nothing. I am not sure why. I am burning the disks with Roxio and every thing seems to be fine during the burning process. Any help.

At the installer type linux ide=nodma mediacheck (not sure if this is exactly correct syntax but there is a help option that should tell you). If they pass the media check then install with the same option (linux ide=nodma).

Thanks, I did not make my self clear. I am perforing this check on the media and this is what is giving me the error message. THe first disk is fine but the 2-5 disk all fail. THe error reads somthing like like this:
"The media check failed
The image that was just tested has errors. This could be due to a corrupt download or bad disc...."
I have check the downlad with sha1sum and it is good. I checked the disk they all look good. I reburened the disks with brand new CD and still the media check gives me errors.

I did understand correctly. There is a mediacheck bug on both FC4 and FC5, and the linux ide=nodma is a workaround for this bug. Perfectly good discs can fail the media check. 3 of my discs failed. I ran linux ide=nodma and the discs that failed passed with that option and the installation continued on without problems
EDIT: This is not to guarentee that your problem will be solved with this option, but there is a very good chance, especially if the discs pased the shasum
