I have a machine with fedora core 5 , amd x2, asus a8v.

But, if fedora core 5 after i have used it for a while. Ethernet dies, the device goes inactive, and I can not bring it up. No matter what I do.

The only thing to do is to restart.

It has not happened in windows.

Ok, I am using the lan card with my motherboard:
LAN Chipset Marvell 88E8001
Max LAN Speed 10/100/1000Mbps

Ok, boot fedora, and ethernet works for anywhre from 8 hours to a minute, and then It acts like the cord was unplugged. It does not give me any errors.

Well it could be a driver issue. There are some kernel modules which need more stack memory or something like that. If there is an overflow , the device hangs. Google around for "fedora kernels 4K stack limit"
Just a guess , you can try other solutions too.
Also try building the driver that came with the LAN card CD.
Chances of it being hardware problem are less as it works well in XP.
