I have PartitionMagic installed on my computer. I was going to use it until I found out FC5 already had partition software. So everything in the installation was going fine until I got to the partition screen. I told it to use existing free space and create the partition. Then an error comes up saying I should create the partition manually and that I only have 8 Mbs of free space. But I already have enough free space in drive C. The only space that has 8 Mbs is a space at the end of my hardrive that says Unallocated. So why is linux reading this tiny space and not the free space of my hard drive?

,.:Thanks In Advance:.,

Because when you format your pc if you want to add a partition in later on then you leave more than 8mb allocated space but the free space on your hard drive cannot be used to partition again unless you format and leave more than 8mb then later on you can create a partition on that free allocated space

So should I create a new partition within drive C?

well its your choice but its proberly best to leave it if youve got loads of imprtant things on it, however if you do then you will have to format it and create a new one and install FC5 once again so it would proberly be best to leave it. Because ive found out the more times you format a hard drive the slower it gets, unless you really need to do it!!! (think hard on this one)

Damn, I dont know what I should do. But, If I leave it, it will still display that error message saying that I have 8 megs. How do I make it not say that and just let me contiue on normally?

there shouldnt be an error message reading you only have 8megs because everyone has it unless they leave an extra of wot ever they want but is this displaying in the partition software?

I dont know but it says I dont have enough free space even though I have plenty. I think its only reading that unallocated space part.

Is windows instlled on your first partition? im guessing it is as you are refering to it as C drive. FC5 doesnt have a resize tool for NTFS partitons (I dont know if thats different for FAT partitins) but you will have to resize your windows partition through windows first then instal linux in the unalocated space.
