Ethernet card not working, need serious help

Hi friends
I recently bought a Compaq presario V2281 notebook and installed a Fedora core 4 on it but my lan card is not working
I receive this mesage: SIOCSIFFLAGS invalid arguement failed to bring up eth0. Need help desparetely.
Any help will be appreciated Thankyou bye

That means the kernel doesn't recognise your LAN card.
Post the output of lspci and lspci -n

I'm also having soundcard detection problems, I have recently bought a compaq notebook
and FC4 is installed on it

Try ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2
If it doesn't work, post the output of lsmod
