I have had a fair ammount of troubles getting video acceleration working on my fresh FC5 install.
Previously on FC4, on the exact same computer, i had the livna frglx rpms working just fine.
It took a bit of work to get the livna rpms installed ( frglx and kernel mod ), but i eventually got that worked out fine, and then are now installed correctly. Unfortunately, workiing correctly and installed correctly are 2 different things.
Once i installed the frglx driver and kernel module, i rebooted to enable my video accelleration. And as you can see by clicking this link, it did not work quite as planned:
click (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_0upCCDz68). [ youtube.com ] this is a video of what happens when i am trying to boot my computer, the problem happens when my computer tries to start rhgb. (if i disable rhgb, then the problem happens at the start of gdm)
its not so easy to explain that in text, so i posted the video.
Once that "video puke" has happened, the screen remains blank for the durration of being powered untill the computer is restarted. however the computer is still responsive "underneath".
The only way i have been able to fix the problem so far is to boot with the rescue cd and revert to my old /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. this way i can boot my computer again and use it, but this of course means that there is still no video acceleration, which puts me back at square one.
any help?
for reference, my computer is a dell latitude D610
and my video card is an ATI mobility radieon X300 (M22 3152)
this card is supposed to be supported by the frglx driver.
