I just installed FC5. I repartitioned the entire disk and installed a competely new version of FC5. Now, whenever I start Evince to open a PDF document I get:
Unhandled MIME type: 'application/x-extension-pdf'
Any help appreciated.

To answer my own question:
I had to delete the directory ~/.local/share/mime. From what I read, some sort of a Nautilus bug.

I have exactly the same problem. However, when I check ~/.local/share, there is no mime file or directory. Any idea?

None. You might try hunting through the hidden . files and see what you find.

New discovery: When I su to root, I can run evince without any problem. Weird!

That's probably because a different environment is then accessed. You could compare the files in root's home to those in the user's home.

Finally, I got evince working! It turns out that for some unknown reason, all xml files used by evince which are located in /usr/share/mime and its sub-directories are "root" readable only. This explains why I can use evince when I log in as root. Once I chmod all the files to group and world readable, evince works with no problem.
