View Full Version : CD boot problems...?

Just a simple question for anyone who has tried FC2-test2.

I downloaded the ISOs last night and burned cd 1 using a mac with Toast TI 6. I mounted and extracted all of the other ISOs to an NFS share because I was almost out of cdrs. Now the problem was not with the NFS share but with CD1 , it would not boot for me at all. I tried burning it again but still no go. I have checked the MD5 sum of the ISO and its fine. Has anyone else tried test 2 and had this problem?

I'm running a gigabyte 7vax Motherboard with an AMD 2200 XP proc. Nothing else should matter as I can't even get it to boot from the cd.

I know some of you are going to say that I should try burning the ISO in windoz but I screwed up the partition table by starting the install from the wrong disk and I'm hoping that by installing fedora again will fix it. Until then though I can't access windoz. I originaly downloaded and started to install test 1 by mistake and had to stop the install because I didn't have all of the disks...long dumb a$$ explanation but ...

Anybody else having the cd boot issue? I'm going to try and burn a couple of copies at work today and see if I can get any further. Is there a way to md5 a cd? Will that sum be different from the ISOs md5 sum?

Thanks for any help anyone can give

I had the same problem. I tried burning the iso three different ways! None would boot:( Then in an act of desperation I tried using the disk 1, from core 2 test 1, then switched the media after the boot screen came up. I have been able the run the media check on the core 2 test 2, and all but one of them passed.
I am now in the process of installing from the Core 2 Test 2 disks right now! I will let you know how it goes:)

I was told that this test did not (on purpose or not) support AMD CPUs. It was compiled without that support.

Cool Mars ... thanks I'll keep watching in here. I have those cds at home already (test1) so hopefully that'll work. z1xq... I really hope thats not true. Why would they do that? GRRR

I think an accident. I will try to get the cd of test 1 and give it a whirl. Thanks.

Apparently my copy of disk 2 is bad:( I'm trying to redownload disks 2 3 and 4 from a different mirror
I am also running an AMD XP 2500 processor on a nforce2 motherboard.

ok ... its official there is a problem ...
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2004-March/msg02179.html
from what they are saying here it looks like Mars is right ... have to use the disk from test one to boot then switch cds.

Just dumb luck on my part. Disks 2 and 3 seem to be bad on my first DL. I'm working from a different mirror right now. Maybe the first DL stalled or something and got corrupted.
How do I check MD5SUM in Windows XP to verify the ISO's?

Well I tried a couple of links I found from Google, then remembered that I have an ISO viewer (duh)! I have gotten a clean DL of disk 2 now:) I am installing as personal desktop right now since I only need disks 1 & 2 to complete the installation:) I should be able to use yum and up2date to install anything else I need.
Still downloading disk 3 right now:(

I hope everyone can boot the installer ok. Then again, you guys have it easy. Way back when I installed Redhat 7.3 on an old machine, I had to make a floppy boot disk! :D

If everybody joins the torrent (http://torrent.dulug.duke.edu/) everyone might get done faster. :) (Bittorrent clients here (http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html))

There's a md5sum for Windows console here (http://etree.org/software/md5sum.exe). It's a good way to verify iso images (http://www.linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/verifyiso.html).

I'm at home now and the installer worked ok by using Mars' method and so far the install is working ... also to be noted I used "linux askmethod" to boot so that I can do the install over the network (NFS Share). MUCH better than having to switch cds
All seems to be good so far :D

You guys are just some of many who are experiencing this problem. If you have not done so yet, stop by Fedora's Bugzilla and add your comments to the bug to help them track down the problem:
