So I backed up my FC4 data and did a fresh install of FC5 the other day. So far I like it a lot. Seems faster than 4. Looks good. BUT...

About 80% of boots my onboard AC97 sound isn't properly detected or something, and when I double-click on the volume control to see what's up, my CX88 TV card is listed in there instead of the AC97. And of course I have no sound.

The Soundcard Detection thing says it has detected the AC97, but when I attempt to play the test sound I get silence. When it asks if I heard the sound, I click No and get this message:
Automatic detection of the sound card did not work. Audio will not be available on the system.
You can inspect /root/scsound.log and file a new bug
at http://bugzilla.redhat.com.
I haven't tried the rebooting thing enough times to be sure about the 80% estimate, but if I reboot a time or two I DO get sound. The AC97 gets detected properly sometimes, but mostly not.

This is something new with FC5. Never had any problems with FC4. This box also has SUSE 10.0 and Mandriva 2005 LE on it. No problems there either. The onboard sound is a vanilla AC97. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I know from reading these forums that I'm far from the only one with the problem. We got a bug here that needs stompin.

Any ideas?

I most of the time get like sound that has lots of noise in it and then sometimes it just does not even detect the Audigy soundcard. The same TV chipset with the cx88 chip in it that gets detected as the primary sounds card.

After a few more days of use, I'd guess more like 40% to 50% of the time the TV card gets detected as the sound device instead of the onboard sound. If it boots up and I hear nothing, I just reboot again until it works. Damn annoying!

I have the same problem. My sound chipset is an Nforce2, and my tv card an MSI TV@nywhere. It's pretty anoying.
